I did this painting for my best friends birthday in March 2020. I added iridescent glitter to the background and pearls to the top. I wanted to capture how she is always smiling and her appreciation for nature.

I wanted to paint a ballerina and it wasn't until after I as looking for reference that I found Michaela DePrince and learned her story. One of the things she is known for is fighting for ballerinas to be able to wear brown tights.

I don't know why I specifically wanted to paint Maya Angelou, I think I wanted to paint someone who's words inspired me. When I posted this on Instagram the quote of hers I attached to it was, "The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise."

I found this picture on Pinterest of a girl from Peru holding a sheep. I tried to use only reds and yellows for the girl while using more blues for the darker areas of the painting.

Imperial Beach

This was done for a scholarship about water conservation. It's really sad how polluted this beach is and not only is the pollution in the water, its in the estuary right next to the beach. It's become a normal thing for residents to be greeted with a foul stench when they walk outside their homes, but it shouldn't be. There's no reason why locals should see "do not swim, polluted water" signs, and not be surprised at all. We need to protect our oceans.

I had originally made this piece for a contest with the theme "blue" hence the monochromatic palette. I wanted to give off a calming feel rather than sad as blue is usually perceived. One day I'd like to play the harp, or the flute.

Coming from a Mexican family I've always admired folklorico dancers. The dresses are so beautiful and I wanted to capture that in a piece. I went for a simpler look for this one, but I really like it; it reminds me of illustrations on posters.
